Retired trooper killed in auto-pedestrian accident in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – A retired trooper was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident in Norman.

Norman police responded to a report of a critical injury collision in the 4100 block of W. Main Street at 7:09 p.m. Wednesday.

A preliminary investigation shows that a van was traveling eastbound on Main Street when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.

The pedestrian has been identified as 65-year-old Lt. Rodney McCrady, a retired trooper.

He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The driver of the van, 68-year-old Janell O’Neal was not injured in the collision and “there were no indications of impairment.”

Main Street between Willow Branch Road and Willoway Drive was closed for approximately three hours while the scene was investigated.

The collision remains under investigation.
