High school student battling the flu placed on life support

GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. – A north Texas high school student is in the ICU fighting the flu.

Larry Donaldson caught the flu back in October. In November, he was placed on life support as his condition deteriorated.

Donaldson is a sophomore, honor student and varsity football player at Whitewright High School.

Parents of other students were shocked to hear the news.

“It causes them to reflect on their own family, and this could be my son in this situation,” Rebekah Card, a critical care nurse and the mother of a Whitewright High School student, told KTEN. “We are all continuing to pray for his complete healing and restoration.”

Friends have created a GoFundMe page to help the family.

And with the holiday season upon us, health officials are warning the flu is spreading.

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, two people in Oklahoma have died from the flu within the last week.

Health officials say there are easy steps you can take to keep stay healthy.

“Wash your hands; wash your hands often. If you do get sick, don’t go to work. Stay home so that you’re not spreading it,” said Grayson County Health Department spokesman Josh Stevenson. “Getting a flu shot is really important.”
