Suspect charged in Ada church bus molestation case found dead, suicide suspected: Police

ADA, Okla. - A church bus assistant, arrested earlier this week and charged with felony molestation, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound outside his home Thursday afternoon.

Ada Police were called to the 900 block of S. Johnston Ave. around 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

"A call came in that a wife found her husband, deceased, in the backyard," said Sgt. Shane Jones, an Ada Police detective. "He's been the subject of an investigation of lewd acts with children."

Police say the man was Wayne Keith Bean, 70, who had been charged Tuesday in Pontotoc County with felony lewd molestation.

According to court documents, three young girls -- aged 7, 11 and 13 -- told police Bean would touch them inappropriately while riding on a church bus to and from Ada Baptist Temple, where Bean was a member. Ada Police began its investigation in May after one of the girls began crying and refused to get on the bus, later telling her mother about the alleged touching.

The girls told investigators he would touch their breasts, touch, slap or pinch their buttocks, or kiss them on the lips.

During the investigation, police discovered Bean was accused in 2005 of similar lewd acts with a child who rode the church bus, however no charges were filed in that case.

Ada Police interviewed Bean in July. Police later recovered pornography videos from his computer of women who appear and are portrayed to be very young, according to a probable cause affidavit. The court documents say the ages of the women in the videos were not known.

Bean was charged Tuesday with three counts of felony lewd molestation and released on $250,000 bond.

"We will continue to investigate this death until we're satisfied that there was no foul play," said Jones. "And we don't think there is."

As for the molestation case, Jones says that will likely be closed.
