Airman headed home for holidays: “I’ve never been so surprised in my life”

OKLAHOMA CITY - Dustin Badon got a huge 'happy holidays' from the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

The Senior Airman is stationed in Altus. He, his wife and child drove up to Oklahoma City for the game against Denver after receiving free tickets from the Thunder.

Dustin thought he was just going to be honored for his service in Kurdistan and Kuwait and with Hurricane Harvey relief. Instead, he was selected as a recipient of the Jack Daniel’s Armed Services YMCA Operation Ride Home Program.

His mother, father and grandfather were flown in from Louisiana. They surprised their son at halftime with the news he and his family will return home to the Bayou State for the holidays.

“I’ve never been so surprised in my life," Dustin said. "Because, I usually don’t tear up, and it's happening right now.”

“I can't even describe it because, you know, where we grew up, we see each other every day, everybody is family, everyone that comes in our community is family so we are used to that," said Stacey Badon, Dustin’s mother. "So, not even seeing them for that amount of time is hard, so hopefully we will be able to spend some quality time."
