And he came through like a champ. In all, Jackson started nine games in place of his all-star teammate and Reggie responded by averaging 15 points per game, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while committing very few turnovers. In fact, if there was any criticism of his play, it was Jackson’s tentative style even in games where he proved he could attack the basket, just like his sensational injured teammate. In other words, we wanted to see Jackson do MORE on offense, because he COULD. He just had to trust his own style and game in situations he had never faced as a pro.

Experts speculate the movement is fueled by the ailing economy and an influx of immigrants.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has identified hate groups operating in all states across America on the organizations “Hate Map.”

There are 20 hate groups operating in Oklahoma right now, according to SPLC, including a local church that made the list.

Oklahoma hate groups include branches of the KKK, racist skinheads, Neo-Nazis, black separatists and one anti-gay group.

According to senior fellow, Mark Potok, the Southern Poverty Law Center tracks hate groups across the country.

“We have a whole staff of people who are constantly monitoring the websites; the underground publications even the short-wave radio broadcast and videos that people on the fringes of our society make, political people.” said Potok.

Reverend Tom Vineyard’s church, Windsor Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, made the hate list, number 20.

Windsor Hills is a small independent Baptist church near NW 23rd and MacArthur.

Pastor Vineyard is a missionary, the son of a pastor and a political activist.

The Southern Poverty Law Center confirms, they put Vineyard’s church on the hate map after he made these public statements before the Oklahoma City city council in 2011.

Vineyard made a number of outrageous statements before the city council including:

• “Homosexuals account for half of the murders in large cities.”
• “50 to 60 percent of homosexuals are infected with intestinal parasites.”
• “Homosexuals account for a disproportionate number of hepatitis cases in North America, 70 to 80 percent in San Francisco.”
• “Homosexuals commit more than 33 percent of all the reported child molestations in the US. Many homosexuals openly admit they are pedophiles because they cannot naturally reproduce. They resort to recruiting children.”

Vineyard wasn’t the only one to speak before the city council that day.

Several other pastor and community leaders spoke out against a policy change that would protect city employees from discrimination based on their sexual orientation.

However, Windsor Hills Baptist Church is the only Oklahoma church which made the map of hate.

The Southern Poverty Law Center does not label all anti-gay groups as hate groups.

But pastor Vineyard, the organization said, met the threshold with those provably false statements.

“Tom Vineyard, for instance, made the claim that 33 percent of child molesters in this country are gay. That is a flat out falsehood.” said Potok. “And if the man knew how to do any research, or perhaps even read a bit. He would know that that is a lie. Let me say that again. That is a lie. It is untrue and it has the effect of demonizing, in one of the most remarkable ways you can do that in this society, an entire group of human beings.”

Pastor Vineyard was not surprised to learn that his church was listed on SPLC’s list of hate groups. “Because I’m a pastor I have to take a stand for what is morally right.” said Vineyard.

Vineyard stands behind his public statements.

He does not believe gays and lesbians need additional protection from discrimination.

He does not believe people are born gay.

“I preach God loves everyone. Jesus died for everyone. He died for the homosexuals just like he died for me. In God’s eyes we are all sinners. We all deserve to die and go to hell but Jesus died for every single one of us.” said Vineyard.

Vineyard has a surprising supporter, at least in some respects.

City councilman, Ed Shadid is the one who proposed the change to the city policy in 2011 that sparked that debate in council chambers.

He is a staunch supporter of gay rights and First Amendment rights.

“He expressed his opinion and I have no problem with that. In fact, participating in the democratic process should be encouraged. I certainly respect his right and would defend his right to speak his mind and participate in the process.” said Shadid.

In fact, Shadid believes Windsor Hills Baptist Church should be removed from the SPLC hate map.

He believes Vineyard’s opinion actually bolstered the case for protection.

“I would have to see something beyond coming to city council and participating in the democratic process and giving opinions that are contrary to my own to define someone as a hate group.” said Shadid.

The Southern Poverty Law Center is continually updating their hate map.

Two years after those public statements, Windsor Hills Baptist is still on the list.

Pastor Tom Vineyard plans on staying politically active.

The Windsor Hills Baptist Church website features information video about gun owners in America, President Obama and a YouTube post titled “Threat of Islam.”

Bryan is accused of fatally shooting her husband of 33 years, Nichols Hills Fire Chief Keith Bryan, in their Mustang home in September of 2011.

David Reddick, Becky Bryan’s brother, testified for nearly two hours Friday morning.

He told jurors the couple was trying to save their marriage after her extramarital affair.

Prosecutors questioned that because investigators said Bryan continued to pursue a relationship with her former lover.

Reddick also tried to explain his sister’s behavior in the hours after Keith Bryan’s murder.

Reddick said she was trying to cope with her husband’s death.

He testified that humor is how some people handle difficult situations.

“She does and says things that are shocking to people,” Reddick said.

Prosecutors contend Bryan was not acting like a grieving wife.

Testimony is expected to continue Monday morning.

Student Cyearah Hoursey said, “I talk to the teachers and see what I can do for extra credit.”    

But one OU student/employee used his finger tips, not his mind, to alter his transcript.

Cleveland County court records show 25-year-old Raja Hamad is accused of changing the passwords of six OU faculty members. 

“He then used those passwords to access the OU network to alter his grades,” according to the arrest warrant.

OU immediately took steps to eliminate access that would allow any further abuse of OU’s systems.

He has also been terminated from employment at the University.

The case has now been turned over to campus police for criminal prosecution.

Hamad is getting no sympathy from fellow students.

Anthony Bullock said, “If you don’t have what it takes to get decent grades in a college setting, go to a tech school or something to be a hacker, don’t come to OU.”

The district attorney is considering felony charges of violating Oklahoma’s Computer Crimes Act.

The suspect holed up in a home that had just sold; the closing was scheduled for 4 p.m. that same day.  

Real estate agent Brent Boone said the buyers and sellers were on the way to the closing when news came someone was in their house.

Boone said, “It was kind of like, ‘Oh my gosh, what’s happening? Do we buy this house do we not buy this house? How do we go from here?’”

Boone said the chase left some damage in the house.

“The suspect was able to jump the fence but the police went straight through the fence; you can see there is a man-sized hole right there,” he said. 

Three doors were damaged and Boone said the suspect broke a screen when he jumped out a second story window.

Authorities said they still aren’t clear how the suspect got into the house but someone kicked in the door and the damage is obvious.

A twist to an already complicated closing, according to Boone.

“So everyone is communicating with each other because the property is going to change hands and we have an incident where, who’s liable for what and what’s going on with the property and we’ve got a burglary in process,” he said.

The Realtor sealed the deal with a promise to absorb the costs of the unexpected damages.

“Everything worked out,” he said. “We were able to keep the buyer happy, the seller happy but it ended up being a pretty wild afternoon.”

An Iraq war Veteran, left disabled on the battlefield, received a home makeover on Friday.

It was an emotional day for the Lozier family and for the last week, the family of three stayed in a hotel as their home was gutted and transformed.

The upgrades are well appreciated by the family, especially after the obstacles they’ve been facing.

“I remember a lot of wind, bright flashes,” Lozier said.

Josh Lozier, a disabled Veteran, recalled the moments before he was caught in the middle of an explosion while serving in Iraq.

“I got brain damage so my memory isn’t so good, I have nightmares, I can’t see out of my right eye,” Lozier said.

Along with the brain injury, Lozier said he also suffers from a physical disability; he has titanium pins in his back.

“Our mission is to help assist veterans, their widows and families,” Smith said.

That’s where Russel Smith with the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 568, along with Home Depot stepped in.

Lozier and his family’s home got a complete face lift with safer wood floors, freshly painted walls and new sheet rock in the garage.

Beyond the $7,800 donation from Home Depot, their employees volunteered to provide some 700 hours of labor to get the job done.

“Volunteering their time to come in to make sure they have a safe, clean environment to live in,” Home Depot’s Ginger Coleman said.

Easy is a way of life some veterans seek, following life-changing damages many Patriots have been forced to accept.

“When your fellow veterans step in and help, just the little things, it makes all the difference in the world,” disable veteran Eddie Beesley said.

Keeping a laid back and modest outlook, Lozier said he appreciates the effort put in to add a little jazz to his home, along with making it safer for his family.

“I don’t personally think I did anything to warrant any of this but it’s cool, I’ll take it,” Lozier said.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 568 said this is the biggest project the organization has been a part of in more than nine years and hope to help other veterans in need in the near future.

Lawmakers said the $12 increase is the first in 10 years. 

Some said they fear they will be paying more than just money with the increase.

Officials said the fee increase will help generate about $8.7 million to help with long lines at facilities by hiring more clerks and equipment for law enforcement. 

Attorney David Slane said, “I’m just concerned that that may be exactly what this funding is being used for or at least a part of it.”

Slane is referring to 2007 Senate Bill 464 that states “the state of Oklahoma shall not participate in the implementation of the Real ID Act of 2005.”

He said he is concerned that part of this new funding may be a way to sneak in what he said is a serious violation of privacy.

“I have concerns that in 2007, the legislature said that they did not want to be participating in what’s called ‘the Federal Real ID’, which means that they can take all of our personal information and put it in a federal data base and can share it with anybody they want,” Slane said. 

The information is gathered from a strip on the back of your license.

That personal information is already being collected but right now, it’s against the law to share it or sell it. 

Slane said, “I think the real question is how do we know that it’s not?”

We contacted the Department of Public Safety but no one was available to comment.

Officials are on scene at Madison Village apartments on the 4200 block of S. E. 52nd St.

Officials have not released the woman’s condition nor her identity.

Police have not confirmed what led to the shooting.

They are searching for one suspect but have not given a description. 

Authorities said the apartment is believed to be an Oklahoma City Housing Authority complex.

Severe weather is likely this weekend and Monday.

Hundreds of fishermen flock there for the annual Walleye Rodeo, the state’s largest and oldest fishing tournament.

However, the drought is threatening to put this long tradition to an end.

The water level is 13 feet below normal after 5 billion gallons were siphoned to replenish Oklahoma City’s drinking supply, leaving the lake only 20 percent full.

“Had to sell my boat,” Clyde Hood, longtime Canton resident, said. “It won’t be back to normal for 10 years I think, terrible.”

The town also boasts other attractions like a carnival and a street dance but it relies on the lake for its economic and recreational drawing power.

Businesses are reporting a 60 percent drop in revenue.

However, the tournament is still on for this weekend and the town has planned plenty of family friendly activities including a barbecue cook off, car show and sand castle contest.

The die-hard fishermen are willing to “rough it” for camaraderie, prize money and love of the sport.

However locals said they fear without significant spring rain, the 46th Annual Walleye Rodeo could be the last.

Freedom 43 TV’s 43 Second Film Festival

Freedom 43 TV’s 43 Second Film Festival is coming up at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

Michael Morris is the executive chef for Putnam City Schools.

“It’s always fun to be in an elementary cafeteria and hear what kids have to say and make their day happy with food,” he said.

A new summer food service at Putnam City schools is fighting childhood hunger.

Starting in June, anyone 18 or younger can eat breakfast and lunch for free during the week.

The program provides healthy meals for kids who might not get them otherwise.

As a former graduate, feeding kids healthy food is important to Morris.

“I’m glad to be back here trying to improve on the nutrition that I had as a Putnam City student,” Morris said.

Children can simply show up at a school during designated times.

They don’t need to be enrolled in the school, there’s no application and ID is not required.

It’s a building block that Morris said is essential for the kids.

“If they stop eating throughout the summer, it could encourage improper eating habits,” he said. “By us providing a balanced meal for breakfast and lunch for them, it gives them the opportunity to continue to build on the nutrition education that we provide during the school year.”

The Canadian County Sheriff’s office began to investigate James Alan Wall, which then revealed more than expected.

“We just went to the guy’s house and knocked on the door and asked him if we could come in and visit with him and asked if we could look at his computers and he signed a consent form and let us do it,” Canadian County Undersheriff. Chris West said.

Sheriff’s reports state investigators asked Wall if there was something he needed to tell them and it would make him feel better.

What they got was a series of confessions.

“We asked him if he had ever abused any children and he admitted to us that he had sexually abused a number of children under the age of 10,” West said. “A lot of times people have the tendency to want to lessen what they’ve done and they just give you the bare minimum…”

After deputies tried to help Wall relax the confession continued.

“After we got the pretty graphic confession of what he’d done to one 5 year old, we went outside where one investigator gave him a cigarette and he relaxed a little bit more,” West said. “During our conversations about abusing small children, we got a number of confessions.”

After Wall’s series of confessions, the Secret Service got involved and gave him a polygraph test.

During the test he admitted to abusing more young victims, the total currently stands at seven and authorities said they believe there could be more.

“I can’t fathom in my wildest dreams why any grown man or any human being would perpetrate these acts on small children they’re sick and depraved,” West said.

Disney is looking into claims that some park visitors are actually using disabled people to skip lines on popular rides and attractions.

According to the reports, some visitors are paying as much as $1,000 a day for so-called “disabled Disney guides.”

Disney’s policy is to allow disabled visitors and their families to cut the line to avoid waits that could last more than two hours.

Experts said that while the theme park offers paid services that will allow some people to avoid long lines, the disabled guides are cheaper for large families and quicker than Disney’s official premium ride plan.

In Jan. of 1996, 36-year-old Scott Penny was found dead in his northwest OKC home.

The murder went unsolved for years until investigators matched DNA from a cigarette butt found at the scene with that of 50-year-old Dwayne Edmondson.

Officials said they are now looking at another man whose DNA was also found at the scene.

Friends of the victim said they are relieved to see police continuing to work this after after all these years.

The victim’s friend, Ken Scott, said, “It is very good to know that no matter how long ago, the people that are responsible will still have to pay a price for it.”

Edmondson has been charged with first-degree murder.

The other man police said they think may be involved in the case denies knowing the victim and has not yet been charged.

He is currently behind bars on unrelated drug charges.

Thomas, a contractor, is accused of defrauding customers and stiffing subcontractors.

He’s also a sovereign citizen, an anti-government extremist.

Subcontractors and others say it’s not a question of if, but when Thomas strikes again.

“He will take advantage of anything he can,” said.

Jeff Karr hired Thomas to build an add-on.

He says the contractor lied about being insured and wrote the city a hot check for the work permit.

There’s also the shoddy work.

We found problems with the design, foundation and brick work.

Plus Thomas’ workers framed the roof by re-using the same low-grade boards used to frame the concrete.

Now homeowners are scrambling to save their projects. Jeff’s desperate and here’s why.

He and his wife are in the process of adopting foster children.

They could be denied because of the dangerous living conditions.

“It would crush us. It would be devastating,” Jeff said. “It would be the culmination of the years we’ve spent doing our due diligence with the state, being approved, waiting and waiting and waiting.”

Last month Thomas disrupted court citing his anti-government ideology.

He refused a court appointed attorney and insisted the judge remove himself from the case.

Weeks earlier, Thomas even tried stalling the case by filing this nonsensical paperwork with the court.

He names the judge, Attorney General, Scott Pruitt and Oklahoma County District Attorney, David Prater as defendants.

We’ve heard from at least six homeowners, including Chase Anderson, who all say Thomas drained their pocketbook and failed to pay subcontractors.

“They’re claiming they’re going to put liens on my house, so I pretty much had to pay them just to get them off my property,” Anderson said.

Those customers will likely never see a dime from Thomas.

Thomas failed to appear for a previous hearing.

He faces more than a dozen felony charges, including embezzlement and elderly exploitation.

His next hearing is scheduled for later this month and you can count on us to be there every step of the way.

Officials said they found 32-year-old William Talbott in asleep in a white Dodge pickup truck on the 7600 block of 234th St. in Edmond.

Authorities said it took Talbott a few minutes to wake up and when he did, he told deputies he thought he was in Shawnee, not Edmond.

Talbott admitted he had used meth a few hours before.

Deputies said they found crystal meth and a syringe in the truck.

They said they truck was reported stolen from Oklahoma City Monday.

Talbott was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on complaints of:

*Possession of a stolen vehicle
*Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
*Actual physical control
*Possession of drug paraphernalia
*Possession of stolen property

Talbott is currently in jail on an $8,500 bond.
