Friends mourn the loss of champion swimmer

SHAWNEE, Okla.-Coaches and swimmers at Oklahoma Baptist University are mourning the loss of a friend, who died Friday evening after an accident at the school’s pool.

Ivan Maciuniak was pronounced dead after being rushed to a local hospital Friday evening.

According to school officials, Maciuniak jumped into the pool but did not resurface.

He was pulled from the water and given CPR until paramedics could arrive.

Maciuniak is originally from Spain and joined OBU’s swim team in January.

Since that time, he has helped the school win a national championship in the 400-meter relay.

He was also named an All-American in several races.
