OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation, according to U.S. Department of Labor figures released Tuesday.

“It’s a reflection of the extraordinary times we’re enjoying in Oklahoma City,” said Mayor Mick Cornett. “After a few months of second-place finishes, even if it’s only been by tenths of points, it’s good to be number one again.”

According to Dept. of Labor figures, Oklahoma City’s metropolitan statistical area unemployment in February improved to 5.8 percent from January’s 5.9 percent.

Oklahoma City has the lowest unemployment rate of any large metro (over 1 million population) in the country.

For the month of February, Oklahoma City was tied with Washington, D.C. for the lowest rate.
