Media mogul to speak at Langston’s commencement

LANGSTON, Okla. —  African-American media mogul Russell Perry will be the keynote speaker during Langston University’s 112th Commencement May 12.

The event starts at 10 a.m. at W. E. Anderson Stadium on the main campus.

A total of 482 candidates have degrees conferred for the Commencement ceremony.

The total includes 108 from the fall 2011 semester, 252 from the spring 2012 semester and 127 for the summer 2012 semester.

Perry, publisher and editor of The Black Chronicle Newspaper and president of Perry Publishing and Broadcasting Company, has previously served as the Secretary of Commerce as well as the Secretary of Economic Development and Special Affairs for the State of Oklahoma from 1999 through 2003.

Perry was the first African-American to hold either of the Cabinet positions.
