NORMAN, Okla.-- A six year old boy is recovering after nearly drowning in an apartment swimming pool, according to a family member.  Kenneth Smith said his stepson, Elijah Watson,  was pulled from the deep end of the pool Friday afternoon.

A witness jumped into the pool to rescue the child.

We’re told someone performed CPR on the boy, which may have saved his life.

"If something would have happened to him I couldn't have lived with myself," Smith said.

Paramedics responded to the apartment complex near 12th Avenue NE and Robinson and the child was transported to the hospital.

Smith said Elijah walked over to the pool while his mom was changing into her bathing suit.

Elijah told his stepfather that he didn’t realize the water was so deep.

“He said he jumped in, thought he could touch, said he started panicking," said Smith.

Smith tells us Elijah will spend the night in the hospital so doctors can keep a close eye on him.
