EDMOND, Okla. -- The City of Edmond is working toward a new master bicycle plan that would incorporate biking trails, bike lanes and bike routes.

The planning department hopes to add miles and miles of bicycle-friendly facilities around town.

They have been working on the master bicycle plan since January.

"We're proposing to build shoulders for roads in east Edmond to provide a place for long distance cyclists to go," City Planner Jan Ramseyer Fees said. "We're pushing forward on building side paths and multi-use trails for cyclist. We're trying to provide a lot of connections within our community."

Now, Edmond planners are asking for the public to log on to the Edmond Master Bicycle Plan website, and offer their thoughts on the plan and the map.

Construction on a pilot plan in the UCO area could start as soon as the end of the year.

There is a public comment hearing scheduled for Sept.13.
