ROLAND, Okla.—A man who was dubbed the “Bucket List Bandit” and is believed to be responsible for a string of robberies across the country has been captured in Oklahoma.

Law enforcement officials from across the country have been looking into bank heists across nine states where the thief allegedly demanded money from tellers and told them he had only months to live.

Authorities say 54-year-old Michael Eugene Brewster was arrested Thursday night in Roland after police received a tip about the “Bucket Bandit’s” identity.

Officers say Brewster was pulled over for running a stop sign and they quickly realized a simple traffic violation had led them to one of the FBI’s most wanted.

Assistant Chief David Good, with the Roland Police Department, said, “After years I’ve been doing this, I probably will never come across something like that again.”

Authorities say they have reviewed surveillance video and found an obvious likeness to Brewster.
