OKLAHOMA CITY—An award that recognizes one of the top players in college football each year has been given to a player at Mississippi State.

Johnthan Banks has been named the 2012 Thorpe Award Winner.

This past season, Banks recorded 59 tackles, seven pass breakups, four interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Among active players, he ranks first in career interception yards and is tied for third in career interceptions.
