American Airlines, U.S. Airways $11 billion merger

DALLAS – American airlines is about to become the world’s largest commercial airline.

Thursday morning, American and U.S. Airways executives announced the two will merge in an $11 billion deal.

Company leaders said the new bigger airline will be financially strong and efficient, allowing it to grow its business.

For those frequent flyers with either company, nothing will change.

The combined carrier will be called American Airlines, based in Dallas, but run by U.S. Airways’ CEO Doug Parker.
