SELMA, Ala. – Thousands gathered in Selma, Alabama, over weekend to honor and remember those who were part of a bloody march there 48 years ago.

Civil rights leaders and activists were attacked by police during a voting rights protest.

Every year many travel to Alabama for the ceremonial walk across the bridge where it all began but this weekend there was a different, very moving tribute.

Vice Pres. Joe Biden took part in the march.

“You lost the battle that day but you won the war,” He said. “And in the process you did something that at could never be changed, you won the hearts and minds of your fellow citizens.”
