May soon be easier to renew driver’s licence
OKLAHOMA CITY – Ever had to renew your license after it expired?
Then you might be pleased to hear a new bill could soon make it a bit easier.
Currently, to renew your driver’s license after it expires, you have to bring your birth certificate.
Rep. Pay Ownbey, R-Ardmore, has authored House Bill 1082 which would allow you to use your expired license as proof and ID to renew for up to a year after it expires.
“The original intent of that law was to prevent fraud but it unnecessarily created a hardship for individuals who had already proven who they were but simply needed to renew their license after it had expired,” Rep. Ownbey said.
Also in the legislation, the Department of Public Safety will no longer be required to store surrendered licenses.
He said that provision will save the agency money and time.
