The Netherlands had a royal changing of the guard Tuesday.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands signed over her crown to her son.

She held the crown for more than 33 years.

Queen Beatrix became emotional during the hand-over ceremony to 36-year-old William Alexander.

He’s the first King in the Netherlands in more than a century.

Beatrix’s youngest son suffered brain damage last year after being hit by an avalanche while skiing.
