OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City police are investigating a homicide from Wednesday night on N.W. 17th St. and Manor drive near Portland.
A man was found dead in the street from a gunshot wound.
A neighbor helped police with surveillance video.
Police lights and crime tape took over what's usually a quiet neighborhood late Wednesday night.
"When officers arrived they found one person lying in the street," OKC Police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said. "That person was pronounced dead at the scene."
Just a few houses down from the crime scene, neighbors were able to capture evidence through surveillance cameras.
"I rushed home to find police all over the place," neighbor Mark Stevenson said.
Mark Stevenson installed his security system a month ago for personal protection, not knowing he'd be assisting police in a homicide investigation.
In his video you can see a quick white flash.
"You see a car pulled up at 10:15, see the gun muzzle flash at 10:24," Stevenson said.
"It shows us an exact record of what took place," Knight said.
Police openly accept any information civilians can give on these unsolved mysteries.
"That puts an extra set of eyes on the event," Knight said. "It's actually better off at times than eye witness."
For Stevenson, watching gunfire play out on his security monitors wasn't expected, however, his video might help put the missing links together to find out exactly what took place on this night.
"It's a misfortune," Stevenson said. "I mean it's a quiet neighborhood, I hate to see somebody lose their life."
