Oklahoma license plate

OKLAHOMA CITY– A familiar icon on Oklahoma’s license plates may be challenged as a state endorsement of religion.

The Native American shooting an arrow into the sky is an image of a sculpture by renowned artist Allan Houser.

The character is shooting an arrow into the sky to bring down rain.

The plate is being challenged by Keith Cressman, who says the plate is a declaration of a state endorsement of religion.

He says he doesn’t appreciate it as a Christian and wants an alternative plate he doesn’t have to pay more to get.

Cressman’s original lawsuit was dismissed by a judge in federal court.

However, the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver says Cressman’s lawsuit should be reinstated.
