As many of us took the time to celebrate the 4th of July, many families use the holiday to work on rebuilding. It was May 20th, just about six weeks ago, when that deadly EF5 tornado ripped through part of our state. The city of Moore was directly in its path.
From the damage left behind; it would be a long road to recovery.
Joining Kevin Ogle in the NewsChannel 4 studios today is Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner, John Doak.
As time has passed, many are still taking steps to rebuild and get their life back on track. Several weeks later; that number still increasing.
Mr. Doak explains the role the Oklahoma Insurance Department plays and how storm survivors can get help.
The ‘Recovering from a Disaster Insurance Forum’ will be in Moore on Tuesday July 9th, and in El Reno the following Tuesday, July 16th.
Both forums start at 6:00 pm.
Help is also available by calling 1-800-522-0071.
Here is additional information:
Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak has announced plans to hold a series of educational forums for storm victims. The weekly forums, which begin June 18, allow impacted Oklahomans to ask questions and receive assistance with insurance-related issues related to the May tornadoes.
“We’ve seen the enormous impact the tornadoes have had on our citizens in the past several weeks,” said Doak. “We understand that the road to recovery can be long and challenging. This is one more way we can reach out and help the thousands of Oklahomans navigating the insurance process, a process that isn’t always easy to understand. That’s why we’re here to help.”
Experts from the Oklahoma Insurance Department will discuss various topics including; how to file a claim, what to do if your claim is denied, how to file a complaint and how to spot fraud. Attendees will also be able to ask questions about individual insurance concerns.
