New class graduates from academy, female OHP troopers at all-time high

OKLAHOMA CITY– A new batch of troopers will be hitting the streets soon.

Authorities say 40 troopers will graduate from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy Thursday.

The graduates include five women, bringing the total number of female state troopers to an all-time high of 20.

The 61st OHP Academy also includes eight military veterans.

A graduation ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday a the Memorial Road Church of Christ.

After graduating, the troopers will spend three months field training with a senior officer.

The cadets are also personally donating and collecting box fans for needy Oklahomans.

NewsChannel 4’s Scott Hines and the Salvation Army will be collecting those fans after the graduation ceremony.
