BETHANY, Okla. – Bethany police say a pickup pulling a boat trailer ran over a bicyclist riding in the “Spin Your Wheels” fundraiser for the Bethany Children’s Center.

He was turning off Overholser Drive onto the shoulder of 39th Expressway when he lost control of his bike and fell into traffic.

Paramedics took him to the hospital where he later died.

“Every year they seem to have one or two mishaps with bicyclists going down or crashing or running into each other but I can`t recall anything this severe in the years that I`ve been working it,” Lt. Ed Cangiano said.

Police say this tragic accident is a reminder for both bicyclists and drivers to be aware of each other, be careful and obey the rules of the road.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to the family and friends of the person involved,” Travis Doussette said, Director of Communications with The Children’s Center.
