Authorities shut down large drug ring with ties to Baylor University

WACO, TX - After a three month investigation by McGregor and Lorena police departments, two search warrants were executed in and around the Baylor campus area.

The investigation uncovered the monthly distribution of approximately $30,000 to $40,000 dollars worth of high grade marijuana that targeted Baylor students as the organization's customer base.

On Wednesday, August 28, officials arrested Richard Ostheimer, 32, Sebastian Lofaro, 21, and Alexander Leake, 21. Agents recovered two weapons, approximately 2.5 lbs of marijuana, numerous prescription pills, packaging material and approximately $7,600 dollars were seized.

Later that day, officials arrested Solanga Weeraratne, 21, on the Baylor Campus. Agents found marijuana, packing material, a A-15 223 caliber assault weapon and approximately $3,500 dollars in cash. Weeraratne was found to be in possession of approximately $1,300 dollars.

Officials also seized Leake's 2007 Cadillac STS sedan and a 2007 BMW pending a forfeiture investigation.

Additional arrests are expected.
