OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Thunder waived guard DeAndre Liggins, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.

Liggins appeared in 39 games for the Thunder during the 2012-13 season, averaging 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per contest.

He holds career averages of 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 56 career games.

Liggins was facing serious charges after allegedly beating up the mother of his child.

Saturday, August 31st, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call and found DeaAndre Liggins’ girlfriend of six years, allegedly showing signs of abuse.

The woman told police Liggins hit her in the head before punching her in the head when she fell down on the ground.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim told police the abuse occurred in the presence of the couple’s 2-year-old son.

The victim says she locked herself in the bedroom and Liggins kicked down the door and pushed her down.

Police said the woman made her way out and fled to a neighbor’s house.

“My husband opened the door after he heard a commotion outside and her screaming,” said Pam Fuller who lives across the street. “She was really upset and said he was chasing her. So my husband let her in and we called 911 for her and waited on them to get here.”

The couple said they noticed obvious trauma on her body.

“She said that her boyfriend was beating her and hitting on her. Her arm was hurt and she thought [it] was broken because she couldn’t move it. When medics got here they touched her on the shoulder and and she winced and kind of screamed out because it was sore,” said Fuller.

While helping the woman, the Fullers had no idea Liggins and the victim lived across the street.

She claims he then dropped a fan on her head and stomped her with his foot.

She also said he picked up an Xbox and dropped it on her head.

Authorities noted that the victim had severe bruising, scratches and blood on her when they arrived at her home.

DeAndre Liggins was arrested on complaints of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic abuse in the presence of a minor.

He was released on $8,000 bond. Liggins is a reserve shooting guard with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In an official statement from the team, Sam Presti said, “We reiterate the serious nature of this issue. We are awaiting further information and will have no further comment at this time.”
