WASHINGTON – Authorities in Washington D.C. are learning more about the moments before a deadly attack at a Navy Yard.

A gunman, now identified as Aaron Alexis, shot and killed 12 people inside the Washington Navy Yard on September 16.

FBI officials say they do not think Alexis targeted anyone specifically when he opened fire inside the building.

On Wednesday, the FBI released security footage of Alexis just moments before the shooting occurred on its official YouTube channel.

Alexis was a 34-year-old Navy reservist and IT contractor who was killed in a shootout with police.

Authorities say Alexis was struggling with mental illness weeks before the massacre.
