Crossfit now offers classes to three-year-olds. Too extreme?

OKLAHOMA- According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among Oklahoma’s adults age 18 and over 66.3% were overweight, with a Body Mass Index of 25 or greater. 30.4% were obese, with a Body Mass Index of 30 or greater.

Among Oklahoma’s adolescents in grades 9 through 12, 16.4% were overweight ( 85th and 95th percentile for BMI by age and sex) 14.1% were obese (95th percentile BMI by age and sex).

Oklahoma is ranked number six where the obesity rates are highest. But what about Oklahoma kids?

One of the most extreme workout facilities, CrossFit, is now offering classes to children as young as three.

The classes last 45 minutes and incorporate traditional CF fare like overhead presses, lunges, and squats.

Some experts say classes helps fight obesity, and promotes healthy habits, but others think otherwise.

Would you send your three-year-old to Crossfit?

    I do Crossfit and have for the last 2 1/2 years. Most of the movements and exercises are things I DID as a child. Jumping rope, jumping on things, running, monkey bars, pushups, sit ups, etc. What’s the big deal? I wouldn’t have them doing 100 lb deadlifts, but the great thing about Crossfit is the ability to scale based on ability. It was fun as a kid and it is fun as an adult.

    If the kid is into it, my daughter loves doing p90x with me. She does what she can, then watches the rest. I would rather her be active then in front of the tv or on a video game.
