OKLAHOMA- When most think about the month of October, they think about Halloween and Trick or Treating.

Many don’t realize that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is a collaboration of agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide access to services.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American women, behind lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, 2,270 Oklahoma women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 510 women are expected to die from the disease. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) wants to remind women to be screened for breast cancer so that early detection and treatment can save lives.

Prevention and early detection are the keys to this deadly disease.
