Earlier on Friday, Adrian Peterson's father confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the boy was Peterson's son.

The Lincoln County State's Attorney's Office will be reviewing police reports for consideration of additional charges against 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson. He is the child's mother's boyfriend.

Patterson made his first court appearance and is being held on a $750,000 cash bond.

Police were called to Patterson's apartment at 6201 South Connie Avenue around 5:45 Wednesday night. The initial call came in as a choking. When officers arrived, they found the child unresponsive.

Information Officer Sam Clemens says that the child had head injuries that were consistent with child abuse.

Patterson, who is the mother's boyfriend, was the only person taking care of the child at the time.

Lincoln County State's Attorney Tom Wollman says that Patterson has a criminal past.
