METAIRIE, LA -- An upcoming fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society brought out the dark side of a man in Metairie, Louisiana this week.

Instead of donating money for the walk, the man walked off with the cash.

"It was almost full. There was probably close to $300," said Angie Cochran, who is raising money for the event.

The incident happened at the Shell gas station on West Metairie and Elise avenues.

Surveillance video showed the man walking up to the register and asking the cashier for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk turned his back, the man fled with the cash.

"The cashier took off after him, and they called the police," Cochran said.

For Cochran, this goes beyond money, It's about the work the money funds, potentially lifesaving cancer research.
