EVANSTON, Ill. – A senior basketball player that refused to give up is learning that hard work does pay off.

James Montgomery III is a senior guard on the Northwestern basketball team.

After graduating high school, Montgomery was offered scholarships at other schools.

However Montgomery, who is majoring in mechanical engineering, picked Northwestern because he wanted an excellent education.

He tried to walk onto the basketball team his freshman year and didn’t make the squad.

His determination paid off and he has been playing on the team as a walk-on since he was a sophomore.

That was until this year when his coach announced in front of Montgomery’s teammates that he was begin given a full scholarship.
