EDMOND, Okla. -- We all know that there are so many good things happening in our schools.

NewsChannel 4’s Meg Alexander introduces us to an Edmond teacher inspiring students with his love of music.

If you step inside the school you can hear the sound of music is echoing through the band room.

Conducting the class is teacher Peter Markes.

His students will tell you Peter Markes is more than a music teacher and he expects more out of his pupils than being good musicians.

Senior, Zack Padgett says, “Markes sees teaching as a calling and the students thrive on his enthusiasm.”

Haydn Kirkpatrick, a junior at Edmond North, says, “In fact, Markes’ approach to helping his students learn involves a little humor.”

Principal, Jason Pittenger adds that it’s great having someone of Markes caliber.

Our sponsor of What`s Right with our Schools, Randall Reed Ford recognizes that good teachers like orchestra director Peter Markes are crucial to inspiring students to learn and grow.

And, you may have heard Peter Makres name before; that`s because He was named Oklahoma teacher of the year in 2013.

Peter Markes and Edmond North High School is a great example of What’s Right With our Schools
