OKLAHOMA CITY – Many families across the state will be going over the hills and through the woods to get to grandmother’s house this Thanksgiving but experts say there is a way to make sure you and your loved ones get home safely.

AAA is offering its free Tipsy Tow service for drivers who may feel unsafe behind the wheel after parties.

The service is offered to everyone from Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 2 at 2 a.m.

After receiving a call, AAA will pick you, a passenger and your car up and give you a free ride home.

“We want to give Oklahomans an alternative to climbing behind the wheel drunk,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma.  “Over the holidays, up to 40 percent of all crashes involve alcohol.  Why roll the dice?”

The service is available to residents in the following areas:

  • Oklahoma City
  • Ardmore
  • Bartlesville
  • Enid
  • Lawton
  • Muskogee
  • Shawnee
  • Tahlequah

Organizers say there is a 15 mile limit for tows and the only place AAA will take you is home, not to another party.

To take advantage of the Tipsy Tow, call 1-800-222-4357.

AAA Oklahoma will also be offering Tipsy Tows over the three weeks before and during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
