VINITA, Okla. – The Oklahoma Department of Corrections says an escapee, who was considered armed and dangerous, is back in custody.

Authorities said 25-year-old Stephen Barbee escaped from the Northeast Oklahoma Correctional Center in Craig County Sunday evening.

Our Tulsa affiliate, KJRH reported Barbee missed an 8:30 p.m. check.

County Sheriff Jimmie Sooter said he believes Barbee may have stolen a truck less than two miles from the facility.

Deputies said Edwin Greschke, the vehicle’s owner, discovered his truck missing around 7:30 p.m., roughly an hour before correctional officers learned of Barbee’s disappearance.

Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Barbee was taken back into custody.
