TRENTON, N.J. – A New Jersey couple says a restaurant receipt with a handwritten message to a gay waitress wasn’t written by them and the couple says they have proof.

Last week, Dayna Morales said she was stiffed on a tip because she is gay.

The story went public and the sympathy and the cash came pouring in.

Now, the New Jersey family, who were her customers that night, say they whole episode is a hoax and they have the receipt to prove it.

In fact, both copies of the check have the same date and time stamp, but the totals are different.

The family says they left an $18 tip, even providing their credit statement to prove it.

That is something that also puzzled the restaurant manager.

The couple says the message that reads, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life,” is not in their handwriting.

However, Morales is sticking to her story and says she is sure she wasn’t tipped.

The restaurant has opened an internal investigation.

The family, who has dined at the restaurant for years, say they have no intentions of ever going back.
