The 5th-ranked Oklahoma State men’s basketball team lost for the first time this year on Sunday night, falling 73-68 to Memphis in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

OSU led by as many as 10 points late in the first half, but the Tigers ralled in the second half, going on a 7-0 run early in the half, and the game was tight the rest of the way.

Down the stretch, the Cowboys had two costly turnovers, once when they could have taken the lead, and another with OSU trailing by three points with a chance to tie the game.

Marcus Smart had his worst game of the season, if not his career, making just 4 of 13 shots, missing all five three-point attempts, and turning the ball over five times, including both of the late turnovers when OSU needed a basket.

Phil Forte led OSU with 19 points, hitting three 3-pointers.

Smart added 12 points and 8 rebounds, while Markel Brown had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

OSU hit just 3 of 13 three-point attempts.

Memphis had four in double figures, led by Shaq Goodwin’s 17 points.

Oklahoma State drops to 7-1 on the season.

The Cowboys next game is home Friday night to host South Carolina at 8:30.
