UPDATE: One killed in Purdue shooting, one person in custody

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –  Authorities are getting a clearer picture of a shooting near a well-known college campus.

Officials say one person is confirmed dead and another is in custody following the shooting at Purdue University on Tuesday.

The university’s website and its Twitter account state the shooting was reported around noon.

The shooting took place inside the electrical engineering building, which put the campus on emergency alert.

Students took shelter in place while officials investigated the shooting.

Authorities learned that one person, a man, was killed in the shooting.

Also, one person was taken into custody.

Officials have not released the suspect’s name or their condition.

The shelter in place order was lifted at Purdue around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

All campus buildings are now open except the electrical engineering building.
