SHAWNEE, Okla. – A late night standoff in Shawnee ends peacefully after the suspect surrendered to police.

According to Shawnee police, it all started as a domestic dispute around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

When officers got there, the armed suspect jumped into a gold-colored pickup and sped off.

During the high-speed chase, police followed the man out-of-town.

He finally stopped in the center median of I-40 after running over stop sticks near the Firelake Grand Casino.

That’s when the chase turned into a standoff.

Police say the man was holding a gun to his own head.

Fortunately, negotiators were finally able to calm him down.

Shortly after that, he surrendered and was taken into custody.
