ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN)  – As millions of people focus on the Olympics in Russia, security forces are on high alert after a passenger allegedly attempted to hijack a plane and head to Sochi.

Officials with Turkey’s transportation ministry say the passenger wanted the plane to land in Sochi, the site of the Olympics.

They were able to scramble a fighter jet to accompany the Pegasus Airlines flight as it landed in Istanbul.

Witnesses say the man allegedly made a bomb threat but the plane was able to land safely.

Authorities had no immediate details on why the alleged hijacker wanted to divert the plane to Sochi.

Security officers are still searching for the possible bomb.
