The Senate voted today(Wednesday) in favor of a bill to increase the debt limit.

About a dozen of republicans joined democrats to overcome senator Ted Cruz’s Filibuster of the bill.

The bill would give the democratic-led senate the 60 votes it needed to move forward with a vote on the measure.

The house passed the bill Tuesday.

The measure allows the government to borrow more money to pay its bills through March 20-15.

It now goes to president Obama for approval.

The bill’s approval comes just in the nick of time.

The treasury department previously told congress it must come to an agreement to increase the debt limit by February 27th.

After that, the treasury said the government would have risked defaulting on its bills.
