Obama meets Dalai Lama at the White House

WASHINGTON – President Obama met with the Dalai Lama at the White House this morning.

The Tibetan Spiritual leader is visiting to the United States on a speaking tour.

China had called on president Obama to cancel the meeting.

The Chinese government accuses the Dalai Lama of seeking independence for Tibet.

The Dalai Lama denied that accusation and says he hopes to restart talks between his representatives and the Chinese government.

According to the White House, President Obama reiterated the U.S. position that Tibet “Is part of” China.

But that he supports preserving Tibet’s cultural traditions and protecting human rights there.
