To many, the idea of giving birth anywhere but a hospital is terrifying.

Although hospital births are still drastically more popular, a new report from the National Center for Health Statistics, shows that more women are choosing to give birth at home.

The report shows that at home births are more common among white women living in the northwestern states.

Although OB-GYN groups say they respect a women’s right about where they choose to deliver their baby, medical experts still say that hospitals are the safest place to give birth.

Anyone interested in at home births should read through the American Academy of Pediatrics’ guidelines for the care of infants in planned home births.
