Van carrying seven inmates crashes into semi on Oklahoma highway

ATOKA, Okla. – A van carrying seven inmates was involved in an accident along a state highway.

Authorities say the van had pulled onto the shoulder of Hwy 7 before attempting to make a U-turn.

However, the driver did not see a semi truck in the lane and pulled right into that vehicle’s path.

Officials say the inmates in the van included 32-year-old Derrick Nickell, 25-year-old Eric Glenn, 50-year-old Derrick Hayes, 59-year-old Charles Wilkins, 35-year-old Jeremiah Hall, 43-year-old Lonnie Stark and 37-year-old Brett Huskins.

Hayes is in stable condition with a head injury, Wilkins and Hall are in stable condition with internal injuries.

Stark and Huskins are in stable condition with external injuries.

Nickell and Glenn were treated and released.

The inmates are from the Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown.
