EUREKA, TX – A three-year-old child is dead after what investigators are calling a tragic accident.

Authorities are saying that an eight-year-old boy shot his three-year-old cousin in the head on Monday.

Officials are saying that the toddler was shot with a 20-gauge shotgun that was stored away in the shed, right next to the home.

According to reports, parents and other family members were inside the house and not in direct contact with the children when the incident occurred.

A local sheriff stated that he believed the weapon was in a location that the adults believed the children could not access.

Authorities are still putting together the evidence and circumstances that led up to the shooting.

As of right now, charges have not been filed against the gun owner.
