TAMPA, FL. – A small plane crashed in the middle of a six-lane road near Tampa, Florida early Saturday morning, killing the pilot and injuring two teenage girls on board.

Authorities say the pilot took off from Chicago Friday evening and was taking his daughter and her friend to Clearwater.

The girls are being treated at a hospital in Tampa.

No word on their condition.

The plane nose-dived into the median in the road.

It clipped a power line on the way down – knocking out electricity to more than one-thousand homeowners in the area.
