ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A mother in St. Petersburg, Florida, is in jail, charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her 4-year-old son.

The boy, Joseph Artis, had lived with his grandmother for the past three years.

Police were told by relatives that his mother, Tasha Trotter, had a history of mental problems.

On Friday evening, Trotter came to the home her son shared with her mother — acting strangely.

Police say she grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began stabbing the boy.

Neighbors heard screaming and sought help from nearby police. But Joseph’s injuries were too severe for emergency personnel to revive him.
