OKLAHOMA CITY – As the fire danger continues to grow across the state, authorities are trying to catch those responsible for setting fires on purpose.

Early Wednesday morning, police were called to the 8200 block of N. Rockwell after getting word that someone had set a tree on fire.

When officers arrived, they found a fire near the Rockwell Plaza Apartments and another behind Slick Willies.

Firefighters were able to put out the fires before they spread too far.

Authorities spotted a man running across the field and took him into custody.

According to the report affidavit, officers say 23-year-old Henry Robert James was found with a lighter, covered with black soot on his hands and shirt and smelled like smoke.

James was arrested for arson and public drunkenness.

Last week, fire crews put out four separate fires in that same area.

The investigation is ongoing but the fires were deemed suspicious.

Authorities are looking into the possibility that this case is connected to those fires.
