Linda Vater stopped by to talk about ground-cover alternatives to lawns.

There are some places that are harder to grow grass, such as around trees and in shady areas.

One alternative ground cover is wintercreeper euonymus.

This green alternative, that many can find this growing in front of Chesapeake, turns purple in the winter time.

Vater says that this alternative does require some maintenance and can have a tendency to go vertical.

Sedums are very popular in dry conditions.

They do best in dry sunny areas.
