New faces and new perspectives prevail at Oklahoma Fashion Week 2014

Day four of Oklahoma Fashion Week brought an art party to Empire Slice House in the Plaza District, presenting a collaboration with artists Jessica Lynn Brown (JLB Atelier), Zachary Cox, and Desmond Mason, design by Virginia Boyles and Zack Green, hair and makeup by L.J. Hill, and music provided by Christina Fallin and Steven Battles as Pink Pony.

The crowd seems to be growing every night of Fashion Week bringing both new faces and new perspectives. The overwhelming response has been pure excitement and hope for a continued growing of Oklahoma Fashion Week, and the Oklahoma fashion industry. I spoke to T Wood and LT Hunt, both of whom have been impressed with Fashion Week events and are looking forward to Saturday’s runway shows.

Wood attended the runway presentations last year and said she definitely did not want to miss out this year. A freelance designer with Gift of Time Design, every event only brings her more inspiration for her own work.

LT Hunt is the owner of The Closet Collections, an online boutique. She has been impressed with the Fashion Week crowd and loves to see what everyone wears to events. Seeing the trends and the unique spin on items helps her with her own business. It’s important to her job to know what people like and want to wear.

Fashion blogger Mary King loves how Oklahoma is really supporting the fashion industry. King shares her personal style on her blog A Cuppa Fashion and is covering Fashion Week events for her readers. Having moved to Oklahoma from Chicago four years ago, she said she was surprised by the different styles she saw in Oklahoma. She said she didn’t expect Oklahoma to be a “mecca of fashion” and has been really surprised by local trend setters. She also appreciates the emphasis on local design and support of local businesses.

Fashion Week activities continue Thursday evening with the Rag Trade Student Design Competition and Oklahoma Fashion Week Emerging Designer Presentations at Penn Square Mall from 6:00-8:00 PM. An after party will be held at 3Sixty Dance Studio from 8:00-10:00 PM. See you there!
