HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (NBC) - It's a parent's worst nightmare.

An alleged burglar breaks into a family's home and makes his way to their son's nursery, all without them knowing anything was wrong.

Around 5 a.m., a burglar was captured by the home's surveillance system lurking around a baby's bedroom with a flashlight.

He even shined the light on the 2-year-old who was soundly sleeping in his crib.

It's unclear what he was looking for but the images made the child's parents sick to their stomachs.

Thinh Le said, "As soon as I know we got broke into, I checked on him. I kissed him so hard. I was so happy to see him. He's okay."

Le says he didn't even know someone had broken into their home until the next day.

He and his wife were asleep in the master bedroom when the intruder came in through an unlocked front window.

The Le's had installed surveillance cameras all over the house, which showed the burglar going from room to room.

Police say he stole a briefcase and a wallet before breaking into a house around the block.

When the alleged thief left that second house, he left Le's items behind.

When the homeowner woke up the next morning, he found the briefcase and wallet and immediately called his neighbors.

Le said, "My stomach was turning. I was really upset what happened."

Le says the burglar is bold and even knew he was being recorded.

He said, "He looked up at some of the cameras and saw and he made some statement that, 'I don't care."

Investigators believe the alleged thief is just a teenager.

The family says they have an alarm system but say this one particular night, they forgot to set it.
