OKLAHOMA CITY – When the weather is nice, a lot of families head to the Oklahoma City Zoo to enjoy the great outdoors.

Now, the zoo is relying on visitors to help them take the top spot in a national competition.

The Oklahoma City Zoo was selected as one of the “10Best Readers’ Choice” zoos across the country.

Organizers say they poured over data from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to select the top 20 zoos in the country.

They looked at annual attendance, total acreage, admission fees, contributions to conservation efforts, number of supporting members and recent awards won.

Organizers say the Oklahoma City Zoo offers the most affordable tickets of any of the nominees and features 500 species, including 54 endangered or threatened species.

Guests will have the option to vote for their favorite zoo to take the title of the ‘Best US Zoo.’

Fans of the OKC Zoo have the opportunity to help the zoo become the #1 zoo in the nation by voting daily at www.okczoo.com or www.10best.com.

Visitors will have until 12 p.m. on May 19 to vote.
