WEST YORKSHIRE, United Kingdom (NBC) – A 15-year-old boy is in custody after he allegedly stabbed his Spanish teacher to death in front of a class full of students.

Authorities say 61-year-old Ann Maguire was stabbed to death in front of students at the school where she taught.

Hundreds of people attended mass at a church near Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds.

A student said, “To call her a teacher is just, it’s not even a good enough word. She was more of an auntie, a grandma, she was one in a million. She cared more about the pupils and the school’s reputation. The grades, it didn’t matter. If the child were unhappy, she’d put them before the grades any time.”
